Welcome to the first in a series of daily posts on news and updates and what not from the indie gaming and dev scene. We know most of all of it cannot be covered, but we can try to find out that tasty morsel of goodness from among all that is happening around us. Lets jump right in.
I saw Proun on the OGRE3D showcase forums sometime back, when Oogst(Joost -oogst- Van Dongen ~ co-founder of Ronimo Games, with games like Swords & Soldiers) the developer was showing off a comparison of his cg image rendered by the Graphics software and rendered realtime in OGRE and it was really awesome. Two days ago, I found out that he had released an early beta of the game! and Play I did :D It was a game that let you race a small shape changing blob of a sphere, on something one might describe as a pipe. You can race other blobs in the first finished level in the game, while you race alone for best time in the second unfinished level. The beta has options to post scores online as well. This game looks awesome and plays well even if a bit unusual. I was reminded of old skyroads and audiosurf, but hey, thats me.. Check our Proun and get the beta here – http://proun-game.com/
I didn’t know about Gamma4(shame on me) till about seven hours ago when I saw a tweet from @Girlflash saying that she had only 3 days left to submit her game! So, what is Gamma4? Well, gamma is a project by “an experimental game collective formed by a rare union of Montreal gamemakers and curators to promote games as an art form and expressive medium worldwide” called Kokoromi. GAMMA 04 is their latest endeavour, which focuses on simplicity as the theme, not for games, but for input. They suggest that its not intricate controls schemes or devices that make a good game and ask developers to push the boundaries of gameplay by making a game with a single input. What’s more special about GAMMA 04 is that they will showcase around five to seven games at GDC 2010 + the teams will get passes for GDC as well!! In march we will be witnessing the Game Developers Conference and the Independent Games Festival back to back, so keep yourself updated with all the fine details from the IGF website, as well sites like Gamasutra and indiegame blog.
On the other side, ModDB has a nice line up of indies nominated for Mod of the year 2009 Editors Choice – Best Upcoming Indie. I’m not giving anything away, watch that video for all the action and of course the winner(well, I’m going to give a hint :D someone coloured there beard pink lol..) – link
Catch Drew Sikora(Gaiiden), Exec Producer at GDnet with his updates on the much awaited V5 of GDnet (w00t!!), GDC Coverage and future endeavors which you might want to keep an eye on :) – links
