I&#039;m looking into writing a game using mainly FOSS,
just to prove what it is capable of.

This list has helped me find some really good libraries.
I&#039;m thinking of using OGRE with C++, Blender for all the modelling and GIMP for the 2D art.
Can&#039;t wait to get started, thanks for helping me find more libraries.</description>

There are places that teach you game development like fullsail - http://www.fullsail.edu/ or GuildHall@SMU - http://guildhall.smu.edu/ .. even then it would be nice to start out on your own to get a feel of what you are getting into..
